Description
Brief Description of the course:
Urinary organic acids give a functional insight into biochemical pathways that are critical in determining treatment modalities necessary for achieving optimal health. Environmental pollutants and in particular petrochemical toxins can have a dramatic effect on health and disease. The use of multi-variant analysis of the test results will also be discussed and how it enhances the ability of the practitioner to provide a more personalized program to the patient.
Relevance to the medical profession:
Medicine is trending towards a more personalized approach to patient care. Urinary Organic Acid testing along with Environmental Pollutants is a means towards achieving that goal. The lecture will provide the attendee a better understanding of how to use these tools allowing them to deliver improved health care to their patients with better short- and long-term outcomes.
Brief Outline Description:
A number of organic acids and environmental pollutants give important information about biochemical pathways that can drastically affect both the efficacy and potential harmful side-effects of pharmaceuticals. Examples include levels of benzoate and hippurate providing information on whether the use of thyroid hormones may be beneficial or detrimental for patients with hypothyroidism. Elevated levels of 5-HIAA, Quinolinate, Phthalates, Monoethyl Phthalates can also give guidance on the uses of anti-depressant pharmaceuticals or natural remedies. Numerous other pathways involving nutrient and drug benefits and/or contraindications will be discussed during the lecture.
